The WTF have made a number of rule changes which are now in force internationally. The
Union will introduce these rule changes commencing at the South Island Championships in
Christchurch on 27 June 2009.
Differentiation in points
• One (1) point for attack on trunk protector
• Two (2) points for a valid turning kick to the trunk protector
• Three (3) points for a successful attack to the face
“Turning kick” refers to a technique that travels 1800 or more commencing with the back
turning towards the opponent e.g. back kick, spinning hook kick, spinning round kick.
• There is no longer an extra point given if the referee counts
• 7 point margin and 12 point ceiling no longer applies
• Raising the knee to block the opponents valid technique will result in a penalty
• Passive play or avoiding the match;
If both contestants remain inactive after five (5) seconds, the center referee will signal the
“Fight” command. A “Kyong-go” will be declared: On both contestants if there is no activity
from them 10 seconds after the command was given; or on the contestant who moved
backwards from the original position 10 seconds after the command was given.
• The ring size is now 8 x 8 metres
Until the electronic scoregear is updated penalties will continue to be deducted from the
offending player. In future penalties will be added as points to the opposing player.

Please find attached a code of practice for coaches/instructors, and a code of conduct for players/athletes which TNZ has adopted effective immediately.
While Taekwondo tournaments in New Zealand are generally held with great spirit, co-operation and courtesy, an isolated incident can have a significant negative impact on our sport.
The purpose is to encourage fair play, good sportsmanship, good practices and professionalism. We don't expect that these codes will place any additional burden on instructors and their athletes as they reflect how our sport is generally being conducted within clubs and at events in our country already.
Please note that the codes will be in effect at the NZ Black Belt Championships being held this weekend in Auckland, 11th October. They also cover TNZ member-organisation events, and the relevant principles should also be adhered to during training at all TNZ member-organisation clubs.
Please ensure your members are aware of these codes, and direct any queries about these two codes to info@taekwondonz.org.nz
