The Union's 2009 Instructor Camp saw a return to the back country of Wellington. For us “City-Slickers”- no cell phones, no internet. The forecast was for misery. But on the negative side, all that arrived was a cold wind on Saturday morning- nothing that a million push-ups can’t cure (cheers Vijay).
Saturday morning saw half the group sitting First Aid certificates (or updates), while the other half worked on their Poomsae with Master Dave Warren. After lunch, we all moved into the Gym for Electronic Pads with Master Vijay Chhika, Self Defence with Master Stan Wagner and an interesting session on 'Ki' with Instructor Dave Fountain.
Sunday was filled with a “multiple instructor warm-up”- give us your best quick warm up exercise! Another session with Master Dave Warren on the finer points of competition Poomsae (Master Warren recommends this book). The weekend finished with a 2 hour punching session with Karate 4th Dan Master, Chris Gower.
As an Camp, the weekend was another fantastic event to have taken part in. For me, everything was a highlight. Thank you to those who organised the event, and to the UNION Committee for funding the weekend.
